After my recent barrage of tests, I found out my results yesterday.
Not only do I not have Osteoporosis, my bones are in excellent health. The doctor noted that was a pleasant surprise because that’s not often the case. My hip bones are as good as anyone’s and my spine is actually better than most peoples. I am, though, supposed to get this checked every few years to make sure they are staying this way.
None of the blood work turned up anything bad. The echo of my thyroid shows a very tiny cyst (3mm – size of a small pebble), that appears to be totally benign and will be ignored. Unless, of course, it ever changes. I was told it’s on my left side, but I can’t feel it at all.
The chest x-ray, echocardiogram and electrocardiogram all show that, apart from beating far too fast, my heart is totally normal (a good thing in a family with enlarged hearts and bad blood pressure). However, the doc says she wants to cover all the bases and is referring me to a Cardiologist.
She does think, though, that it is one of my medications that is causing my heart to beat too fast. It’s a bummer, since the one that’s doing it was my “miracle drug”, the only one that turned me from a zombie into a more normal human being. I don’t relish the next several weeks I can tell you.
I’ve been on it for 5 or 6 years, so I’m being brought off it very slowly, 5 mg less a week. I go back to see her next month so we can see how I’m tolerating the change (by then I’ll be on a little more than 1/2 of my usual dose). If I am doing fine, we’ll try reducing it at a faster rate. If I’m not, I’ll probably be given some other medication to help me through it.
So every morning I have to take my resting heart rate and record it. If it goes down we’ll know the medication is the cause. If it doesn’t, we’ll have to continue the search.
